Minimaliste & Monopoly Coast-To-Coast

"At Minimaliste, we always take our decision according to our core values, keeping in mind our mission of democratizing tiny houses in North America."

In early 2022, we were approached regarding a potential collaboration with McDonald’s. At first, we were both curious and confused about this opportunity. How can our respective companies align in such a way that it would make sense for us to be a part of it? What can this be about? Why would Mcdonald’s be interested in teaming up with a Canadian tiny house company? It was a mixed feeling of excitement and questioning.

It became clearer when we had our first virtual meeting; we had the opportunity to provide a tiny house as one of the main prizes for the 2022 McDonald’s Canada Coast to Coast MONOPOLY. Let’s be honest: for any growing company such as Minimaliste, this is a huge visibility opportunity. But is this something we want, is this something we need? We had to take a step back and think about it.

At Minimaliste, we always take our decision according to our core values, keeping in mind our mission of democratizing tiny houses in North America. If a world-renowned company like McDonald’s is thinking of including a tiny house in their promotion game, it is definitely because tiny houses are now a real housing solution, gaining in popularity, and not only an eccentric option for people who want to live apart from society. What if this opportunity could be the best way to put tiny houses on the map? What if it can help democratize the tiny house industry at a much larger scale?

If you are reading this article, it’s because we decided to jump in. In fact, this visibility opportunity is unlike everything we’ve been doing since our very beginning in 2015: we have the chance to talk to people who aren’t aware of tiny houses and what they can bring in terms of housing solutions. Our content and communications are mostly addressed to people in our environment, which are already familiar with our products. Now we have the chance to spread our message nationally and the simple fact that there will be a tiny house to win in the 2022 McDonald’s Canada Coast to Coast MONOPOLY could be a game changer for the whole movement. As a leading tiny house company, we wanted to be part of this change.

Not only tiny houses can be a smart alternative as a primary residence with a significantly reduced ecological footprint, they also represent a great solution for student housing, workforce housing and atypical rental projects. In a housing crisis context nationwide, let’s put tiny houses on the map so they can take the place they deserve!
